WORK

• The work is defined as the product of a force and the displacement produced by the force in its direction.
• Work = Force × Displacement in the direction of force.
• W      = F×S

Work

• Whenever a force is applied to a body and if the body is displayed from its original position in the direction of the force, then the work is done by the force.

*EXAMPLE:

• When a man lifts a weight to a height from the ground, the muscular force which he exerts does work against the force of gravity.
• Work is a scalar quantity.
• Units of work in  C.G.S  system is "erg".
• Units of work in  S.I  system is Newton Meter(Nm)  or Joule(j).
• Relation between joule and erg:

      1J     = 1N×1m

      1erg  = 1dyne×1cm

      

       "" 1 Joule  = 10 to the power of 7 erg.
